What is wireless charging technology?
When a smartphone or any electronic device that gets charged by simply placing it in a wired charging pad wirelessly. This process of charging is done by the electromagnetic induction principle.
Standards of Wireless charging technology
- Qi(chi-pronounced in china)- This is the most standard and the currently used wireless charging technology standard.
- PMA(power matters alliance)- This came to compete for the existing wireless charging technology.
Both Qi and PMA work on the inductive principle but Qi standard is the most commonly used wireless charging technology for smartphones.PMA is also used but for some devices only.
What is the concept of wireless charging technology and how the charging is done?
Basically, two things are required to charge a device wirelessly
- Transmitting coil - which is present in the charging pad which is connected to the supply through wired.
- Receiving coil - which is already present inside the smartphone which is connected with the battery.
So, when the power supply is given to the charging pad the electric current passes through the coil and changes into an electromagnet which emits an electromagnetic field through smaller distance(few cms) this electromagnetic field will be received by the receiver coil in the smartphones which is placed at the charging pad and changes into electric charge to charge the battery present inside the smartphone.
Note: There is no wired contact between only the charging pad and the smartphone but not the charging pad with supply it is required to plug through wire only.
Some smartphones support reverse charging technology which means the smartphone has both receiving and transmitting coil also known as a transceiver coil. By using this we can also charge any other small devices like earbuds or any other smartphones.
Is it possible to charge my smartphone which doesn't support wireless as wireless charging?
It is possible, but you need to buy a separate induction type coil for a smartphone and wireless charging pad which is readily available in the market.
Why all the brands are not giving Wireless charging support in mid-range phones but in higher-end phones?
It is because of its cost and also it is a currently implemented technology that requires some time to see in mid-range smartphones. After a few years, there is no possibility of seeing wired charging phones in the market.
Future implementations:
- Due to the demand for non-renewable energy resources after a few years, the whole world is going to change with electrical vehicles instead of using petrol or diesel bikes.
- To charge those vehicles, wireless charging technology is going to implement in all those public visiting and parking places.
- When a vehicle gets parked in the parking slot it automatically gets charged and this system is mostly implemented for electric cars.
