WHAT IS GRAPHICS CARD?

Graphics card

The Graphics card is the one that is responsible for
rendering images from the input data acquired from the CPU. It is mainly used for gaming and video editing purpose.

What are the types of Graphics cards?

  • Integrated Graphics card -  The graphics card which is normally integrated into the motherboard by the company.
  • Discrete Graphics card - The graphics card which is externally installed by the user or manufacturer, inside the motherboard.

What is the GPU?

GPU stands for Graphics processing unit which is the brain of our graphics card. The main function of the GPU is to collect the input data from the CPU and converts the data into images that are visual to the Display.

When was the first GPU was developed?

GRAPHICS CARD

  • The term GPU was coined by sony.
  • Sony GPU was designed by Toshiba.
  • Nvidia's (Geforce 256was the world's first GPU introduced by Nvidia in 1999.
  • ATI Technologies introduced the virtual processing unit(VPU) AMD's Radeon 9700 GPU in 2002.

Types of Ports to install GPU:

WHAT IS GRAPHICS CARD?

  • PCI -  Peripheral Component Interconnect.

  • AGP -  Accelerated Graphics Port.

  • PCI-E -  Peripheral Component Interconnect - Express.

What is fps?

fps stands for frames per second which are widely used for images and videos. We all know that most likely the video resolution is explained with fps, fps is nothing but no. of images captured per second.
Nowadays displays also come with higher refresh rates(90hz,120hz). Higher refresh rates refer to the higher fps.

Higher fps lead to smooth fluid motion experience for the user.

What is the role of fps in Graphics cards?

Likewise, the images & videos we shoot, Games also have textured images and graphically intense images that are rendered and displayed in the monitor with the help of Graphics card.
  •    When you choose higher-end graphics card it can render images with higher frame rates(higher frame rates lets you experience the buttery-smooth gameplay with high refresh rates)

  • When you choose lower-end graphics cards it can render images only with lower frame rates(lower frame rates lets you experience the lag and frames drops during the gameplay with lower refresh rates.

Companies manufacturing graphics card:

AMD

nvidia/intel

Discrete- AMD / NVIDIA

Integrated- AMD / Intel

Does Graphics card Really need RAM?

yes, Every graphics card have RAM, which is separate from our PC's RAM. Graphics card RAM ranges from (512mb -8GB ).
It is called as VRAM.

RAM is important for the graphics card which helps the user to play games at a higher resolution.

What are the output pins are there in the graphics card to connect to display?

WHAT IS GRAPHICS CARD?

  • VGA - (Video Graphics Array) this is the old generation video connector and also it has lower efficiency in transmission of data.
  • DVI  - (Digital Visual Interface) it has two connectors (DVI- I )-which transfers both analog and digital signals.
  • HDMI -  This is the new generation display connector which the data transfer has higher efficiency and easy to adapt. This connector transfers both video and audio signal at higher speed and higher definition
  • DISPLAY PORT- This port is for new generation monitors that transfer both audio and video signal and also other format data.

What is the role of GPU in gaming and video editing??
