As we have seen (Nvidia's SLI) earlier it also one of the multiple GPU technology but this was developed by AMD.
What are the requirements for setting up
Crossfire X?
As we mentioned earlier in Nvidia's SLI technology. Almost the same requirement is also needed for the AMD CrossfireX technology:
- It requires a mgpu(CrossfireX) supported motherboard with PCI-E slots.
- Power supply connectors for Multiple GPUs.
- It requires a minimum power supply of 650 watts (it depends upon the number of GPUs you are installing.
- Crossfire two GPU is only possible when the two AMD GPUs are in the same series (eg.Radeon 5580 supports 5570 but Radeon 5580 not support 5670).
- Proper Cooling method is required because multiple GPUs can cause overheat and noise which may disturb the user experience while playing games.
Games which support CrossfireX technology
Here I have mentioned some games which support CrossfireX technology:
- Battlefield Bad Company 2.
- Battlefield Hardline.
- Battleforge.
- Battle born.
How the improvements can be seen by the dual graphics card user?
- User can only saw the improvements who is using multiple displays for gaming.
- This mgpu technology is mainly targeted for the performance freak user so the person who wants to run the games at extreme resolution can go with mgpu technology.
- The user can't able to see when he uses a single display for mgpu technology.
What are the Benefits of using AMD- CrossfireX multiple GPU technology?
- fps in the games will be increased.
- Games will run at the maximum resolution which more than you expect.
- It can handle multiple displays smoothly without any lags or micro stutters.
What are the downgrades of using AMD- CrossfireX multiple GPU technology?
- It does not cost-efficient.
- Not all games support multiple GPU technology only a few games support mgpu also it requires a slight adjustment to run the games smoothly.
- power consumption will be higher it will put holes in your pocket for electricity bills.
Why most of the gamers are not using this or suggesting this technology?
It is because most of the gamers run their games with a single display also buying one higher-end graphics with a higher price is a smarter move than buying two lower-end graphics cards at the same price.
Also, almost all the games support single GPU technology now, this what the reason why most of the gamers are still not moving into mgpu technology.
But no one can predict the future even this Nvidia and AMD also don't know about the future.
In my thought
Nowadays most of the game developers not using multiple GPU for their PC so maybe our future will light up with multiple GPU technology.
Is AMD-CrossfireX still exist?
Crossfire Brand name was retired by AMD in Sep 2017 but the support for mgpu is still now giving through DirectX11 name.
