What is RAM?

What is RAM?

Random Access Memory is a volatile memory that is used to store the data for the temporary purpose to complete the process of the task requested by the user.

Why RAM plays an important role in PC?

What is RAM?

RAM is important for every CPU because it is the fastest memory that shares the stored data to the CPU to complete the process. If your processor doesn't have cache memory, RAM starts to share the data required by the CPU.

What are the types of RAM?

What is RAM?

There are four types of RAM
  • SRAM               - Static RAM(cache memory)
  • DRAM              - Dynamic RAM
  • SDRAM            - Synchronous Dynamic RAM
  • SDR SDRAM    - Single Data Rate Synchronous Dynamic RAM
  • DDR SDRAM   - Double Data Rate Synchronous Dynamic RAM.

Which is the fastest type of RAM?

According to speed and power consumption DDR SDRAM (Double Data Rate Synchronous Dynamic RAM) is the fastest ram in the current date which comes into the market under the name of DDR1, DDR2, DDR3, DDR4 thus the DDR 1,2,3.... represents the speed of the RAM.

Why RAM speed is rated in terms of frequency?

What is RAM?

It is because that the ram is also a memory storing device but it is a volatile memory that serves data and instructions to the CPU so, the reason for expressing the ram speed in terms of frequency is, it represents the ability of the Ram to transfer the data per cycle.

For example Corsair Vengeance 8GB DDR4 RAM 3200MHz here the 3200MHZ represents that the ram can transfer 32 million data and instructions per cycle.

What is inside the RAM or How does the ram hold the memory temporarily?
What is RAM?

Inside the ram, it consists of lots of capacitors and transistors. To put it in simple, the nature of the capacitor will have the ability to hold the charge for a small period and then discharges as long as the power is supplied it repeats the same process and the nature of the transistor will act as a switch. By using this concept

The capacitor is used to hold the memory for a small period and the transistors are used to refresh the memory at every time to record any changes given by the user.
